More Hero Arts News

Earlier this week I shared with my readers about my recent visit to the Hero Arts Factory Store in Richmond, California. I recently received an e-mail from Hero Arts telling me about a meet-up on Wednesday afternoons.   Share ideas, techniques and inspiration with new and old friends while you make cards, scrapbook and/or work on any other crafting projects.  There will be some Hero Arts products out for you to play with!  So bring your WIPs (works in progress) and come have some fun. Their first meet-up starts on Wednesday, May 13 from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Have you always wanted to learn how to make a shaker card?  Well the time is now!  Martha and Terry will be showing you how to do just that in their next class on June 1 from 1 pm to 3 pm.  The cost is $25 for an entertaining afternoon.

Don't those events sound like fun to you? They sure do to me, I'm planning on making a visit again soon.

A Visit to Hero Arts Factory Store

On Monday and Wednesdays of each week, Hero Arts opens their factory store to the public. Recently I visited, I always find the Hero Arts staff very friendly and inviting. It is fun to look through boxes of product that have been marked down to great prices, some items don't have their full retail packaging, but thats ok with me!

Congratulations Card

Welcome to Tuesday's with Terri! Today we are making a congratulations card using the Secret Garden postcard I colored on March 24, 2015. 

I used Lawn Fawn's Penelope's Blossoms stamps to create the sentiment "congratulations" on the front. Then cut it out using the matching Lawn Fawn dies. 

Attached a peach ribbon to the side of the trimmed postcard and tied a bow and secured the tails to the front of the card using glue dots. 

While this card was fairly simple to make once the postcard was colored, it's bright and sunny, perfect for spring graduations, communions, or engagements.

Secret Garden Postcard

I don't know about you, but I have loved coloring ever since I can remember, so why stop now? I came across "Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Coloring Book."


The book has many pages of flowers, gardens, creatures and rambling vines hand drawn by the author just waiting for you to color them in and making them your own. Space is also provided for your continue your own drawings on some of the pages.

Here are a couple of pages I have worked on using gel pens.

My initial thought was to use Copic Markers to color the pages because I love the ability to blend the colors, but I soon discovered that the paper is very porous and the ink is absorbed onto the back of page.

Next I tried gel pens.  The first set of pens I purchased were Fiskars Gel Pen, 48-Piece Value Set. They work great, but some of the neon inks seem to clog up at the tips, but the glitter and metallic pens worked great, plus they're my favorite. When I started to run low on the Fishers' pens I gave Sakura Gelly Roll Metallic Gel Pen Set a try and they were a dream to use. I wish I had purchased the larger  Sakura 64-Piece Gelly Roll Set.

In the video below, I used Crayola 50ct Colored Pencils to color a postcard from the Secret Garden Postcard book. I also used Gambol Oil to blend and shade the colors.

Copic Markers for Card Makers - Day 7

Today we learned how to work with difficult colors such as black and white. The reason these colors are difficult to use is because they are either under saturated or over saturated with color and difficult to give dimension to.

The first image we colored was a flower. I used red, which was the second example in the lesson. I didn't have the colors to create a white flower. Once I obtain them, I am going to give it a try and I will post them here. Because the two colors of red were so far apart on the color spectrum, I decided to blend them together on an acrylic block to get a happy medium.

The second image we colored was this cute little Robot Vampire. Isn't this just something that a child would want to be for Halloween? Sometimes it's too difficult to choose between two, so lets do both!  

This photo shows how we were able to use shades of black/gray to give more dimension to the image.  It also taught us how the use of different grays will look like completely different colors by using a warm gray next to a cool gray. 

Copic Markers for Card Makers - Day 6

In day 6 of Copic Markers for card makers we learned how to color critters. The two examples I have are dogs and foxes. 

While it's always acceptable to color a critter a natural color, I don't see why you wouldn't want to color a dog any color of the rainbow, so I did.  In the first two examples I used non-traditional colors, in this lesson we learned how to use the colorless blender to remove excess color from your project. You can see an example of that in the first turquoise dog where I used the colorless blender to make spots.  

On the last dog "Sox" I used the colorless blender to remove color from her left paw (right when we're looking at her) and I gave her snout a few freckles too. 

My ideas for Sox come from my very own dog Sox who is 15 years old, here is a photo of her at the right. I just realized, I gave her wrong paw the white sock. Ooops. I'm sure she will forgive me, specially if I give her a scratch or two behind her ear. :) 

Here are the foxes I colored, again I removed some color for highlights and color variances in their coats. They're adorable aren't they? 

Copic Markers for Card Makers - Day 5

First, I would like to apologize for not posting earlier. It's been one of those weeks and today is Friday and I have had an opportunity to catch up on my class videos and homework.


In today's video I learned about coloring people, their skin, hair and clothing.  The first image shows how I learned to combine various colors to achieve different skin tones and hair.

Here you can see the various skin tones and hair colors I tried.
















Then I moved onto practicing the hair, skin and clothing on the ballerina's to the left.  I'm very happy the way they turned out, specially since this is the first time I have tried.
